Today, Illinois Governor, JB Pritzker announced a mandated, state-wide school building closure for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Based on the Governor’s order, Skokie – Morton Grove School District 69 buildings will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year and students will continue participating in e-Learning through our last day of school on June 9th.

Please reach out to your child’s teacher, building principal, or email help@skokie69.net to make us aware of any needs or ways that we can best support you or your family.

Our staff has already begun discussing alternative plans for the typical springtime rites of passage such as 8th grade graduation, retrieval of personal belongings, transitions to new buildings, and completion of PreK that occur each school year, as well as ways to connect us even as we are separated.  We look forward to sharing those with you in the upcoming weeks.

In the meantime, please help us to continue to improve by completing the survey on District 69’s first three weeks of e-Learning found here.

Update –  3/31

This afternoon, Governor Pritzker extended the stay-at-home order, including the closure of all school buildings and the continuation of remote learning, until April 30th. District 69’s e-Learning plan begins tomorrow (April 1st), and all District 69 buildings will remain closed through April 30.

All of our staff are working remotely and are most easily contacted via email.  If you are unsure of who to contact or require any type of assistance please email help@skokie69.net

Please continue to monitor your email and your child’s e-Learning platform for district communications and announcements. We hope that your family remains safe and healthy during this time. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you need additional support.

Thus, all Skokie-Morton Grove School District 69 schools will remain closed until Wednesday, April 8.

We will continue to be in communication with your family over spring break (March 23-27) regarding the district’s e-learning plan that will begin Wednesday, April 1 and any other guidance that is provided to us by ISBE.

To stay up to date on the local response to COVID-19 please monitor the Village of Skokie’s website, www.skokie.org,  If you are in need of assistance, the Niles Township Government continues to provide emergency financial and food assistance.  Please visit their web page www.nilestownshipgov.com, for more information.

All District 69 Schools Closed March 16th – 31st

School District 69 is closed from March 16-31. The March 17th Board of Education meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the District Office. For more information about the closing, click here. Keep reading below for information on resources for families during the closure.

Continuation of District Food Service
All students that qualify for free or reduced lunch will be able to continue receiving District-provided lunches during the week of March 16. Sack lunches will be distributed at Madison School on Monday, March 16, and Wednesday, March 18, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Please enter the building at the school’s main entrance at 5100 Madison Street in Skokie.

Families are encouraged to come on both days, and students may take two sack lunches on each day.

Food Pantry
Through our Community Schools staff, the District has been collaborating with the Niles Township Food Pantry to support the need within the community for short-term food assistance. More details will be provided on the District 69 website as plans are finalized.

Internet Access
Starting Monday March 16th, low-income families in the Comcast service area can sign up for 60 days of free Internet Essentials service, which is normally available to all qualified low-income households for $9.95/month.

To sign up, visit www.internetessentials.com. There are also two dedicated phone numbers 1-855-846-8376 for English and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish.

Childcare Resources
Knowing that back-up childcare is a need for families when schools close, the Community Schools team proactively reached out to community partners to compile a list of resources that can provide such care.  Please click HERE to see local available childcare options.

At-Home Learning Resources
As part of our planning for a school closure, the District curriculum department has compiled At-Home Learning Resources for families to access with their children during an extended school closure. Please click HERE to access this resource. These resources are available by grade level and subject area. The At-Home Learning Resources are posted to the District website and paper packets are available in the Little Free Libraries outside all of our District 69 schools starting Monday, March 16th after 1pm.

These At-Home Learning Resources do not make up for missed school days and are not e-learning plans. Missed days will be made up during the emergency days already built into the District calendar. The learning resources are simply enrichment activities that families may choose to engage in.

An additional measure that the District has taken is to send devices home with students in grades 3-8. Students in grades 3-5 were provided  with an iPad and charger, while students in grades 6-8 received a chromebook and charger. Teachers reviewed expectations for the devices and student use on Friday. Families can access device support by emailing help@skokie69.net.
