Room 126

Mr. Caplan's 3rd grade class is very dynamic.  The classroom community is based on respect, work ethic, and self discipline.  All students in room 126 have a "get your hands dirty" approach to learning.

Mr. Caplan’s Philosophy on Teaching:

My philosophy as a teacher is that every child CAN learn. Although children learn in different ways, each child is capable of learning and has the potential to achieve success while doing so.  I firmly believe that “learning by doing” is a very important concept.  Students need a chance to practice what they have learned, as well as use many different “hands-on” strategies for learning.  I like to try to make learning fun for your child, while offering them a challenge at the same time.  It is extremely important to me to foster a safe, comfortable, and positive learning atmosphere where each child feels important and special.

Homework:  **As of now, there will be no more formal spelling tests.  Spelling is incorporated into our Treasures weekly assessments.  Thus, we will not be giving a formal pre and post spelling test anymore.

What's been happening in Mr. Caplan's class?

Our winter trimester is very challenging for third graders.  We will be focusing on our winter benchmarking assessments, as well as begin our preparations for the students' first ISAT exam.  We will be working extremely hard to ensure our success on all assessments.  Here is a quick note on helping prepare your child for the ISAT.  The two most important things families can do to support their child in preparing for the ISAT is to make sure that they read as much as possible at home, and to build your child's self confidence as the exam approaches.  I am comletely confident that all my students will be prepared and ready.  I need for each student to believe in themselves.  This will go a long way in helping your child succeed on the exam.  Mr. Caplan
